Nimue Smit Italian Vogue video interview

Nimue Smit for Italian Vogue January 2009, ph: Steven Meisel, stylist: Marie Ameie Sauve:

Famous for
Long giraffe-like legs, witty and relaxed attitude, endless energy, intelligence & ambitions, and of course her many editorials and campaigns shot by some of the worlds best photographers.

Zoom
She was born in Bussum, a small town near Amsterdam, in the Netherlands.

When she was 15, she received a message over Hyves (a Dutch version of Facebook) from her mother agency Code Management. Judging from the pictures she had on her profile, the agency saw a great potential in Nimue. Not much later she had her first editorial in the Netherlands.

Her big break came in September 2008 when she exclusively walked the Prada spring 2009 show.

In Paris, she opened the Miu Miu show and she went on to shoot the Prada campaign with Steven Meisel, who also shot her for Italian Vogue.
In the same season she appeared in editorials in Dazed & Confused, Vogue UK and Numéro.

Style.com named her one of the top 10 new models to watch in March 2009, after her first full show season.

Once again Steven Meisel shot her for a campaign, this time it was the fall 2009 Alberta Ferretti campaign. In the same season she also became the face of See by Chloé.

Spring 2010 was another succesful season, with only-girl Giorgio Armani and Anna Sui campaigns to add to her career highlights.

Between all the shoots and shows, Nimue was still attending high school, following education on the highest level possible in the Netherlands.

Looking back now, she thinks her agencies have played a very important role in managing her career in such a way she could still attend school. She also thinks her mother agency helped her a lot with inspiration for photoshoots in the beginning.
They would ask the client what they had in mind and sent her some pictures or a movie with examples for that specific mood or personality.

She graduated in June 2010 and moved to New York not long after that.
At the moment she's modeling full time and she's now fronting the Mulberry and Givenchy fragrance campaigns.

Also she just shot various editorials for Harpers Bazaar, Vogue America, Another Magazine and more.

As for the future, she has always dreamt of becoming a vet and of traveling the world. The last part is a dream come true at the moment. She's trying to decide what she wants to study, and veterinary medicine is still a possibility.

Public style
Casual with a chic twist, mixing designer with vintage and less expensive brands.

Italian Vogue Video Interview: Giedre Dukauskaite

Giedre Dukauskaite, ph: Steven Meisel fot Italian Vogue April 2010:

Video can be seen at Vogue.it:

Famous for
She really has all that a model should never be lacking of: body language, an intense gaze, a charismatic face.

Personal style
Casual, but she likes to look chic even when wearing just a pair of jeans. Which she customizes with colored details and plenty of accessories.

Zoom
She grew up in a small, tiny Lithuanian village, where fashion is not one of the most widely-discussed topics.

As a kid she dreamed of becoming a doctor or a lawyer, but not a model for sure. Also because she was not exactly the most beautiful girl in school. On the contrary, precisely for her ugly-duckling fame, one of the prettiest girls in school invited her along to a casting, hoping she would look even prettier in comparison. Yet, talent scouts were very impressed with Giedre.

In Taiwan she attended a course to learn runway-walking and from there she flew directly to New York Fashion Week's shows, and walked for Diane Von Furstenberg and Marc Jacobs.

She did her first shooting with i-D magazine. But she will never forget the D&G campaign shot by Mario Testino. The photos were so beautiful that gave her instant fame, and made her a name in the fashion circuit.

As for Vogue Italia, she was first shot by Carlotta Manaigo, then by Paolo Roversi and Steven Meisel.

She also was one of Prada's faces.

Alongside with Stella Tennant and Lakshmi Menon she appeared in the H&M campaign.

She has walked runways for Prada, Miu Miu, Salvatore Ferragamo, Giambattista Valli.

She has bought an apartment in Lithuania, where she goes back often, and her greatest pastime now is traveling around the world hunting out for furniture pieces and accessories to make it look more homey.

Never leaves home without
Her pink Blackberry.

Public style
High heels, well-groomed make-up and hair, a precious clutch, a sexy mini-dress or tight-fitting jeans.

Private style
Just a good moisturizing cream, her jeans, her sneakers and a t-shirt.

Bags and shoes
She has a soft spot for shoes, but almost all the accessories she owns (including belts and bags) are by Miu Miu, from all collections. Her only rule is that she never wears flip-flops, the least chic thing a woman may bee seen wearing.

Hair
Her greatest asset, very beautiful au naturel by rather fragile. She nourishes them with a mask once a week.

Favorite designer
Miuccia Prada, Marc Jacobs, Alexander Wang, John Galliano.

Favorite accessory
A handbag by Prada she bought a year and a half ago. White, hand painted in pink and yellow, inspired by old fairy tales.

Favorite music
Dance music, a bit Boney M.- style. She loves dancing and going to gigs.

Favorite food
Her mum's lasagne.

Favorite drink
Vodka.

Favorite book
A Lithuanian book, The forest of Gods, by Balys Sruoga. The book tells of the cruelty against the Jews during the Second World War.

Favorite city
Paris and New York.

Fashion tip
"Take care of yourself and never lose self-confidence."

Motto
Never stop respecting others.

Good habits
Organic food and a homemade body scrub (a family's recipe). Always on time and super-tidy.

She loves
Hanging out with friends, watching a movie, wandering around the city. And Christmas.

She hates
Getting hurt like she did once during a fitness routine.

Italian Vogue Video Interview: Rianne ten Haken

Video can be seen at Vogue.it:

Why she's famous
She's one of the iconic Versace models.
For someone who claims not to be interested in fashion and to not have had any idea what she wanted to do when she grew up, the speed and determination that she's shown in her career is quite impressive.

Magazine covers and ad campaigns, catwalks and fashion shoots all over the world: she's among the most requested models in the word. And she's still so young.

Her style
Sensual, enthusiastic, versatile. She looks great in a punk style, with bright red hair and a fiendish smirk, or dressed as a snow fairy. Basically, she looks good in everything. Which is not a common quality.

Zoom
She was born in Lelystad, Holland, a little town of just over 60 thousand citizens. One day, walking down the street with her mother, an agent asked her if she'd like to take part in one of the many contests put on by the Elite Modeling agency.

She was only 15, but she won - and her life would never be the same again. Two years later, she was on the runways.

She then moved to New York, which was a culture shock for her. But her sweet face and luscious lips didn't pass unnoticed and she was hired as the testimonial for both Versace and Chanel Cosmetics.

She's appeared in ads for various brands ranging from Armani to La Perla, from Fornarina to Pucci.

She's been photographed by Steven Meisel, Craig McDean, Patrick Demachiellier and Peter Lindbergh for the covers of magazines like Vogue Italia, Nùmero, Vogue UK, Vogue USA, Elle, Acne and W.

She's now the face of Pierre Cardin Parfum, and her career continues to rise despite the fact that she's a girl with solid dreams and the desire to return one day to live in Holland.

She played a sexy maid in an entertaining scene during the Louis Vuitton 2008 S/S runway show in Paris, together with Claudia Schiffer and Naomi Campbell.

In 2009, she posed for the Pirelli Calendar set in Botswana and appeared on the covers of German Elle, Vogue Japan, and again, Vogue Italia.

She went back to her studies, which she'd interrupted to follow her modeling career and got her degree in Economic Science, hoping that one day it may allow her to follow other pursuits. She speaks Dutch, German, English and a bit of French.

After three years in Paris, she decided to go back to New York, where life is more stimulating - but also simpler - than it is in Europe.

Never leaves home without
Ipod and cell phone.

In public
Super short dresses, colorful, maxi furs, sequins, heels.

In private
Jeans, blazers, sneakers.

Shoes and bags
Ballerina shoes by Repetto and maxi bags by Chanel.

Hair
In 2009, she dyed her hair from light brown to bright red, for a Vogue Italia cover. It goes without saying that she looked great like that as well.

Favorite city
New York.

Favorite drink
Vodka orange.

Favorite food
Pizza.

Music
A mix of '80s music.

Film
Anything at the cinema.

Good habits
She reads a lot.

Bad habits
Smokes.

Loves
Being outdoors and immersed in nature.

Italian Vogue Video Interview: Ubah Hassan

Ubah Hassan for Italian Vogue, ph: Steven Meisel

Ubah's video interview with Bethann Hardison can be seen at vogue.it:

The Somali model was launched by Ralph Lauren in 2008 and is now a promising star in the world of fashion: groomed, entertaining and totally engaging

I first learned of Ubah because she was booked to do designer Stephen Burrows's presentation and the night before, she was then confirmed to do Ralph Lauren. It was the gracious attitude of Burrrows, how happy he was for this model who left a hole in his lineup at the last minute. He expressed to me, as we scurried to find another model, "she is just so nice, Bethann".

Meeting Ubah exudes beyond "nice". She is nice. But that word nice defines many things when you speak of Ubah. She is mannered, groomed, entertaining, quick sense of wit, courteous, great body length (impressive for any designer) charming and respectful regarding the efforts of others and totally engaging. That's Ubah, all at once. You will experience it immediately.

Let me also say, my interview with Ubah was the most fun. We laughed often and talking with her I actually learned things. I love the way her mind works. I am also happy she has found solid model career representation, as it makes a huge difference for the disposition of a model in a industry, like all talent driven industries, that you need someone (your rep) having your back.

The Ralph Lauren collection presentation was the kickoff to Ubah's "now you see me" career in September 2008. Prior to that, she was featured, in the July 2008 all Black Issue of Vogue Italia and shot by Steven Meisel. The Ralph Lauren follow up to the collection showing, Ubah was then featured in his advertising campaign in January 2009. Which was amazing in its self. It was not just Ralph Lauren, it was gorgeous Ralph, inspired by North Africa, Tunisia, Algeria, Morocco. When Ralph Lauren uses a model of color, i.e. Tyson Beckford, it feels bigger than life. It affects your psyche. Perhaps because I am of color, I feel that way. Especially when it is a stunning image.
Ubah was again, in Vogue Italia's January 2009 issue, shot by famed photographer Bruce Weber. That following April, she starred in a video with Iman discussing diversity and race in fashion and later don the ARISE magazine February 2009 cover.

Nice to know, that Models.com featured Ubah as Model of the Week in May 2008. And that was before things really started to happen. Discovering and introducing models is what Models.Com does. Recognizing them at every stage is what I long to do. Sharing Ubah at this moment has been a delight.

Name: Ubah Hassan.

Dream Gig: "Beauty company. Working for UN."

What's next: "Being that it's such an unpredictable business you never know but I always have hope that whatever is next it will be positive."

Personal style: "Depends on my mood. I love being comfortable."

Jewelry: "I don't wear much jewelry."

Hair: "Long or short. It depends on the job."

Fashion tip: "Dress according to your body type. Have your own style."

Favorite dress: "Simple black dress."

Favorite city: "New York. Anything is possible here."

Favorite music: "Jazz and blues; I love Michael Bublé."

Favorite food: "Rice and beans."

Favorite drink: "Coconut water."
